Romine Tardy Policy

Your children are extremely important to us at Romine Elementary School with their learning our number 1 priority.  Tardiness at arrival to school and pick up at the end of the day has become a problem.  Getting your child to school by 7:35 a.m. provides your child the opportunity to prepare for the day: eat breakfast, sharpen pencils, get materials and books ready, begin morning work, return any notes or homework to their teacher, and any other preparation that helps their day run smoothly.  Students that arrive late, miss out on breakfast, and miss the bell to bell instruction that starts at 7:40 a.m.  Arriving to school late results in the child being frustrated, behind in classroom assignments, and then can turn into behavior issues in the classroom and around school.

It is very important that the students are in the classrooms and ready to learn at 7:40 a.m.  It is equally important that students be at school for the entire day so they will not miss instruction and any type of intervention or remediation that they could receive.  School ends at 2:25 p.m.  Teachers then begin their planning period at that time.
Care is available through the Little Rock School District if picking your child up in a timely manner is or has become an issue.

In order to combat these issues, the following procedures will be in place as of February 14, 2017.

Per Semester                    Offense                                                                               Sanction
1st Offense                          2 Tardies per within a week                         Early Morning Detention at 7:00 a.m.
2nd Offense                         2 Tardies additional                                         Early Morning Detention at 7:00 a.m.
3rd Offense                         2 Tardies additional                                         1 Day of In School Suspension
4th Offense                         2 Tardies per additional                                 2 Days of Out of School Suspension

1st Failure to attend Detention-------Additional Early Morning Detention
2nd Failure to attend Detention------Additional Early Morning Detention and Lunch Detention
3rd Failure to attend Detention------2 Days of Out of School Suspension***

***Referral to DHS for Educational Neglect

School begins at 7:40 a.m. with the first bell ringing at 7:35 a.m. to get students to class for preparation for the day.  The tardy bell rings at 7:40 a.m. for bell to bell instruction till 2:25 p.m. daily.  The building is open every day at 7:00 a.m. to accommodate students that arrive early.  You may drop your child(ren) off at 7:00 a.m.  School dismisses walkers/bus riders at 2:20 p.m. with car riders being dismissed at 2:25 p.m.

Thank you for working with us to help your child be on time daily.

Attention Parents and Visitors:

The circle at the front entrance of the building is only for school buses in the morning and afternoon. Please do NOT drop your child off in this area! This is a danger risk for our students, so please drop off in the designated areas.
